Synapse Storage Locations
Synapse utilizes Amazon S3 to store and host data managed by default. This includes files, tables, wiki pages. Synapse Project Owners can specify the default storage location for data uploaded in the project. This may include the default Shared Synapse Storage (in Amazon S3), a Custom Storage Location (Amazon S3 or Google Cloud Platform) or an Individual Storage managed for the user by Sage.
Synapse Shared Storage
Shared Storage is the default location Synapse uses to store data. This storage is managed by Sage, on behalf of the users of Synapse.
Custom Storage
Storage managed by the user who controls the storage bucket. Storage and egress costs are paid by the owner of the bucket and no limits are imposed by Synapse. Data storage and egress from custom storage does not count against the Synapse Plan limits. Custom storage may include locations outside of AWS (such as Google Cloud Platform). For more information, see: https://help.synapse.org/docs/Custom-Storage-Locations.2048327803.html
Individual Storage
Individual Storage is managed by Sage on behalf of the Organization in the form of an S3 bucket that contains only the plan user’s content. Storage and Egress is limited by the Organization’s Plan. Users must have an active Self-Managed or Custom Synapse Plan to utilize Individual Storage.
