Audience: This SOP provides instructions to Sage ACT to set up public IDU widgets in Synapse

Table of Contents

Overview

Intended Data Use statements (IDUs) are required for many controlled datasets with ACT-managed data access requirements (ARs). IDUs are typically 1-3 paragraphs, and they address the following points: What do you want to do? Why are you doing it? How do you want to do it? Requestors submit their IDUs to ACT to gain access to certain controlled datasets.

ACT is able to set up an IDU widget in Synapse that allows requestors’ IDUs to be displayed publicly on the project wiki page. This enables the data contributor to monitor who is accessing their data and for what purpose. It also allows the research community to view how others are utilizing the respective controlled datasets.

Setup Instructions for ACT

Please reference the video below to set up the IDU widget

Additional Setup Notes:

  • Ensure you are in Experimental Mode before setting up the widget (previously called Alpha Mode). This can be toggled in the bottom right corner of the Synapse webpage.

  • For datasets that already have the IDU widget in place, the IDU statements from future approved requests will automatically be added to the IDU wiki.

  • Ensure that IDUs are set to be “publicly available” in the ACT AR setup area.
