For public datasets that require a login (e.g. Broad's CCLE portal), a way to provide a pointer and prompt a User/Password

Working in this Synapsification manuscript submission, it'd be nice if a public dataset that nevertheless requires a user account with USER/PASSWORD (as the Broad typically does) can both be pointed to (as we do with GEO and TCGA) and provide some mechanism for passing the authorization info—either with a dialog box in the UI or via the R client as arguments.

This is unreleated to the GDC/TCGA integration but rather to handle authenticated ftp and http files that are stored as external URLs.

Key use case seems to be TCGA – as they are now about to begin migrating off their SFTP solution onto an external object store, does not seem like this is worth doing as-written. if you know of other pain points here, let's discuss. Adding to the epic for context.

Actually only works for sftp currently. It used to work for ftp and http but no longer

Works for FTP case, open for other cases as needed.
